Stresa has an ancient Christmas tradition
The beautiful villages around Hotel Villa Borghi are ablaze with lights and warm atmospheres: this year Christmas is more magical and fabulous than ever. It's great to spend the day with Christmas markets, boat trips and last-minute shopping, and there are two neighbouring towns that have a special affinity when it comes to Christmas: Stresa and Laveno Mombello.
Village of Stresa
In Stresa, the 12th edition of the Grotta di Babbo Natale (Father Christmas's Grotto) has just started, with special motorboats taking you to the famous Isola dei Pescatori (Fishermen's Island) to visit the traditional nativity scenes set up by the island's inhabitants in the characteristic village streets. Isola Bella will be transformed into the "Dolce Isola" and the various hamlets of Binda, Passera, Vedasco, Brisino, Magognino, Levo Someraro and Campino will give life to 90 cribs set up, all of which can be visited.
Village of Laveno Mombello
Laveno Mombello will be hosting the territory's longest-running festival, the Presepe Sommerso (submerged nativity scene). A real nativity scene with life-size statues, set on the bed of Lake Maggiore and magically illuminated. Statues floating in the water, music and shows will accompany the entire Christmas period and walking along the lakefront will give you the impression of being immersed in a real Christmas village.
